Spending your gap year diving is a great way to stay put and become integrated with a place during your gap year.

With lots of different gap year diving programmes to choose from Xtreme Gap can help your find the most idyllic location to spend several sun drenched months, whiling away your gap year as you learn to dive in some of the most amazing underwater environments the world has to offer.

Diving is not for everyone, but for those that love the feeling of pure weightlessness, accompanied by the huge sense of adventure that comes with every dive, the completing a gap year diving course can be very appealing.

For those interested in gap year diving, there are several levels to which you can train. The basics being an open water course or the Advanced open water course. Completing these gap year diving courses will allow you to dive to depths of 18 metres and 30 metres respectively. This is great is you want to try our diving or just become a casual diver diving on holidays and every once in a while, but if you wanted to spend longer mastering scuba diving and really indulge your passion for gap year diving, then you should look to do more. The next step up the PADI training ladder is the rescue course, this is relatively expensive compared to the open water and advanced, but a necessary step all the same.

Once you have completed you rescue course you can then consider doing the ultimate gap year diver course. The Divemaster course. Competing your Divemaster qualification is the first professional level diving qualification and excellent for your gap year. Once you have completed your training, you can work in the diving industry and get paid on your gap year! The real beauty of the divemaster course (especially the Thailand Divemaster course) on offer through Xtreme Gap Year is that you are able to spend up to 12 weeks diving every day. Imagine living on a tropical island and diving every day! The Divemaster programme is the time when you really become a competent diver, comfortable underwater and learning how to safeguard others under the water.

Another fantastic gap year diving option is to complete the Xtreme Gap Year underwater videography course. This enables you to work as an underwater camera man, and consists of a 3 month internship, training you in filming the marine environment. The beauty of this is you also get paid during the course!

Whatever you want to do on your gap year, especially if you want to do it underwater, talk to Xtreme Gap Year about out diving options, with our range of best value gap year diving programmes, we are sure to be able to help you on your way to enjoying you gap year diving in some of the most incredible marine environments. As a company set up and run by professionally qualified divers, you will be in good hands starting your gap year diving adventure.

Brazil Gap Year Programmes

If you are thinking about taking a gap year and want some inspiration. Consider taking a Brazil Gap year for some out of this world adrenaline sports.

Living in Rio de Janiero could possibly be one of the best choice you could make on a Brazil Gap Year.

The Marvellous City, is by any standards one of the most exciting destinations in the world. Like most tough choices especially when it comes to choosing your Brazil Gap year options, it could almost be impossible to choose what you would like to get up to on your Brazil Gap year. Fortunately, with Xtreme Gap Year the extreme sports company, there are now some incredibly exciting options to choose from when it comes to finding ways to keep you occupied on your travels.

Their programmes focus on adrenaline travel, put another way, experiences that provide you with a shot of adrenaline and really make your travel experiences stand out from the usual. In Brazil, this comes in the form of Brazil Martial arts training (Capoeira, Brazilian jiu-Jitsu and Boxing) Surfing and rock climbing. A Brazil gap year would not be complete with out soaking up the wonderful blend of Brazilian culture, which is why their programmes also include some Samba activities as well.

Capoeira training is a great programme that gets you involved with a local community project teaching street kids Capoeira. Capoeira is a martial art disguised as a dance, brought over from Africa during the slave trade and is a fantastic spectacle to behold. No doubt at some point on your Gap Year brazil will see an impromptu Capoeira Rhoda being performed.

The Brazillian Jui-jitsu programme is a serious martial art. Training at one of the top Martial arts academies in Brazil you will receive direct linage training from a 9x world champion.

The Brazil boxing academy is a great programme for those wanting to get fit and learn how to box, whilest living by the beach, exceptional for fitness levels it really packs a punch!

Most of the programmes are centred in Rio De Janiero, where you will find some of the worlds best beaches, sandwiched between the mountains and the sea. The programmes have the option to live in a favela and become involved with local community projects, really involving you in the local culture and atmosphere. Favelas, can have a nasty reputation for being a lawless dangerous environment, this is not a just reptutation however, as you will see on your Brazil Gap year, if you become involved with the locals and are willing to mix with other cultures, your experience will show you otherwise.

The other option for accommodation with the Brazil Gap year programmes, is a specially selected hostel, right near ipinema beach, you are sure to have an incredible time being located near some of the most incredible beaches in the world and right in the thick of all the night life and cool shops, which are amazingly good value.

So if you are looking for a Brazil Gap Year. Check out www.xtremegapyear.co.uk for further details.

Travelling Oz in a Car or Camper… Don’t Do it!

I travelled up the east coast of Australia in a car that I bought with my girlfriend. At first we were buzzing because it was a land cruiser 4x4, really cool we thought and we could not wait to gwt out there and explore! We though this would be much cheaper in the long run as we could then sell it after wards.

How wrong we were. After driving from cairns to Sydney (and sleeping in the car which was NO fun) the engine blew up and we lost... $7500! That is about £2500. Gone. nothing to show for it - and that does not include what we spent on fuel and insurance and break down cover. In total, we blew about £3500 in 6 weeks.

We were gutted, not only because we could have bought a Cheap Oz Experience Pass for about £250, we could have spent the rest of the money eating out or staying in 5* hotels and not come close to spending that amount of cash.

The loosing the money was really stupid, but that is not the only reason we were disappointed. If you get a car or a camper, you meet no one! Seriously, the camps sites are full of old people in winebagos, when you could be having a laugh in some cool back packer bars... The driving is very lonely in a car, and believe me we did about 3000 miles in 6 weeks, that is a long way people, meeting people on the bus takes the pain out of the miles.

As for the grey hound, well, yes it is probably cheaper, but it is not a travellers bus network, and probably takes longer with more stops and is less sociable. I would go with Oz experience if you are planning an Australia Gap Year

Should the UK government pay for gap years? Here is an article we wrote to say no!

How about a link to an old article on gap years and a Thailand experience or a little feature on learning muay Thai?

With the rise of the Australia gap year and the bitter cold of winter now set in, it is the perfect time to consider a gap year in Australia.

Hornbills

Hornbills.

I think it was Ernest Hemmingway who said "There is not a day that went by when I woke up in Africa and I'm wasn't truly happy". Well Ernest clearly never got woken up at 4.50am on his Africa Gap year by a pair of Hornbills crowing outside his window. Imagine a Crow with a banana nailed to its face and then give it an ear splitting whining noise like a pissed of frightened cat. That is a Hornbill. Years of evolution has not been kind to these things, imagine trying to fly with a huge downward curving banana beak and you can imagine how these things travel – Pretty much like I do in a plane to be fair, must be something to do with my nose also. The meaning of their name I am unsure of – either because of their beak being mistaken for some kind of Horn (most likely) or my theory is that they sound like a fucking fog horn.

Gap year Thailand – don’t hold back…just go…

For people interested in a gap year Thailand, there is a new website http://www.gapyearthailand.info/

This aims to be a collection of useful information and tips for taking a gap year thailand.

Thailand is an increasingly popular place to take a gap year or even just go backpacking. Partly due to the fact that the main gateway in to asia is Bangkok making travel in to thailand very accessible and cheap. Once the gap year takers are in Thailand, their travel budget stretches much further too, due to thte low cost and high standards of living in Thailand.

People head out there for different reasons, for some the allure of pristine beaches is a big free, others search out incredible weather and headonistic night life. Other active people are attracted to Thailand as it offers exciting sports such as Thailand Muay thai Kick boxing training, and out of this world diving.

Not every one is really active however, building up a sweat in the tropics is easy enough with out running around, so some people like to while away their days watching the sun set with a cheap cocktail served in a bucket loaded with loopy juice (Thai Red Bull and Samsong whiskey). Not that we would blame them, the sun setting into the sea is incredible. A huge orange glowing fireball just out of reach, slowly bringing the evenings spectacular festivities of fireshows and revellers hitting the beach to party is enough to get anyone started.

Thailand is a year round destination, not that it is sunny all the time… the monsoon season can bring intermittent strong rain storms, but fear not, when one side of the country is wet, the other is dry, so you are only a days travel away from finding those gorgeous hot sandy beaches, sheltered with paradise island coconut trees, lazily drooping onto the beach.

If you have never been to thailand, you have much to look forward too, if you have already been, like many others you are sure to return, and will know exactly what I am talking about. They say you never really leave the land of the smiles, no other country has as greater impact on your soul than spending your gap year in thailand. Once you do leave there will always be a place in your heart, filled with fond memories of this magical country.

Thinking about going on a Australia gap year? Many people take a gap year each year and head to Australia for some fun abroad.

There are many different exciting experiences waiting in Australia on your year out, many fun sports to try and great adventures to be had.

Australia is a big country, with lots of things to see and do there, although most of the activities are located near the coast.

Many people combine their gap year in Australia with a gap year New Zealand and gap year thailand.

Surfing is a very popular activity in Australia, for good reason, surfing is incredibly fun and really good for fitness.

Diving is also fantastic in Australia. With the great barrier reef on the east coast and Ningaloo reef on the west coast, there is something for everyone in Australia's seas.

People thinking about going on a gap year in Australia should contact Xtreme Gap Year. They are experts in exciting travel experiences in Australia and also incredibly good value.

Fitness Vacations and fitness holidays from Xtreme Gap

fitness vacations

Looking for a fitness vacation with a difference? Many people are. Bored with grinding their butts of at a gym, they are looking for new way to get in shape and take a Fitness Vacation.

As any good fitness holiday should the fitness holidays available through Xtreme Gap year provide lots of excitement fun and adventure at the same time as getting you in shape. How fit you can get, as always depends on personal effort, but considering some of the fun activities on offer, motivation comes easy.

Take the fitness boot camp in Thailand, for example. Not only do you have dedicated personal trainers overseeing your fitness regime, but you also stay 10 minutes from the beach surrounded by lush Thai jungle.

Then there are the Martial arts fitness vacation options. The martial arts are in general non contact, and not dangerous, but incredible for your fitness levels and health. Muay Thai training is one of the most fitness intensive martial arts available as is Learning kung Fu in china.

If your idea of a fitness vacation is more about getting wet and having great fun in the process some of the best options are surfing. Surfing works all your muscle groups and is a seriously good work out in itself. No wonder all these surfer dudes have chissled abs and bodies to die for. With Xtreme Gap you can learn to surf in Australia, south Africa or Brazil (to name a few) and get a body worthy of any stroll along the beach.

A low impact fitness vacation, that is increasingly popular is yoga. Set on a tropical paradise Island the Xtreme Gap yoga retreat is perfect for stretching your way into shape in between massages and gorgeous cheap Thai meals.

Finally diving is also an option when considering a low impact fitness vacation. Whilst it may seem unlikely that floating along under water prodices fitness benefits, when you consider the breathing, and cardio impact of repeated dives undertaken on a Divemaster course, the fitness benefits start to show.

Of course a lot of fitness benefits depend on the amount of time and effort put into achieving the goal, but then not everything is easy, at least with Xtreme gap's fitness vacations, the majority of the work load it taken care of.
